If your idea of fun is to soar above the rainforest canopy, BioMaya is the place to experience ziplining at its most spectacular. The BioMaya facility was built from the ground up to primarily serve cruise ship passengers to Costa Maya/Mahahual. The facility employs state-of-the-art technology to ensure your safety and comfort. In addition to the thrill of ziplining, BioMaya offers its guests a unique insight into the culture of the ancient Maya and the rich biodiversity of the Costa Maya rainforest. Round-trip transportation, snacks, juice, and bottled water are included in your tour.

Round-trip transportation
Your adventure begins near the entrance of the cruise ship terminal at Mahahual (also written as Majahual). You will be met by our transportation coordinator and directed to a comfortable, air-conditioned passenger van that will drive you to BioMaya. (The trip to BioMaya from the port takes about an hour.) Water will be provided.

Land of the Maya
Once you reach BioMaya, you'll board our open-air Jungle Truck for a narrated tour through the rainforest. As you'll learn, the area around the complex boasts the greatest biodiversity in all of Mexico. You'll be introduced to Costa Maya's ecology and ancient Mayan culture.

Prepare to fly
The Jungle Truck brings you to the Welcome Center, where local Mayans will perform an ancient soul-cleansing ritual to prepare you for your adventure. You'll have a chance to sample local oranges, even with a splash of tabasco sauce. The Welcome Center also includes restroom facilities and lockers for personal items. Once you're ready, our professional guides will instruct you in the finer points of ziplining.

Safety first
You can rest assured that safety and security are the top priorities at BioMaya. The complex's unique double cable system means that you'll be suspended by two cables as you zipline. The two cables not only provide extra safety, but also ensure a smoother, more stable ride. BioMaya's zipline course was also designed so handbrakes aren't necessary. At the end of each course, you'll come to a smooth stop without any effort.

Ease of use
The BioMaya course takes the work out of ziplining. Instead of climbing to the first platform, you'll be placed in a sturdy harness and gradually hoisted by a heavy-duty winch system. At the end of the tour, you'll walk down a wide staircase rather than rappelling to the ground.

Ziplining highlights
BioMaya's zipline course is built around four platforms connecting three lengthy courses. Your final glide above the rainforest canopy spans more than 2,600 feet and opens to a breathtaking view of Bacalar (also known as the Lagoon of the Seven Colors). Don't be surprised if you're joined in flight by colorful macaws flapping their wings alongside you. BioMaya is currently the only facility that offers participants the option of parallel ziplining that can accommodate up to four people.

Nature walk
Back on the ground, your exploration of BioMaya will continue with a nature walk through the rainforest. You'll learn more about Costa Maya's unique ecosystem. Especially fascinating is the web of lakes and rivers linked to the Bacalar Lagoon and the nearby Caribbean. Be sure to ask about the Cenote Azul -- the largest sinkhole on the Yucatan Peninsula and a featured sight on the last run of the ziplining course.

Relax
Your final stop before returning to the cruise ship terminal is the Welcome Center. There, a bottle of juice, a granola bar, and a bag of potato chips will be waiting for you. Souvenirs and professional-quality photos of your adventure are also available at the gift shop.
